SQUASHSMARTS

Visiting Board Member, Volunteer, Mentor—2011-Current

Through Wharton’s Nonprofit Board Leadership Program, I was selected to serve on the board of SquashSmarts, a youth enrichment program that combines academic tutoring with squash coaching.  On the board, I was given the role of co-chair of the Young Friends network.

Strategy

Working closely with the Executive Director in developing the Young Friends network, I was challenged with creating a platform that would engage volunteers and encourage awareness as well as donation. To outline the structure of the Young Friends, I developed the Young Friends Charter which stated the structure of the group as well as its major goals pertaining to expansion, volunteerism, and an annual fundraising target.

Mission Execution

I also participated in the high level decision making of the board of directors, adding my opinions on fundraising and programming and sharing my perspective as a Wharton community member. I led a variety of events to strengthen the community and created The Wharton Open, a now annual open squash tournament held at the University of Pennsylvania to raise money and forge connections.

CitySquash

Currently, I work with CitySquash, a similar program based the Bronx. I am a mentor to a 5th grader and volunteer regularly.
